Zijuan Black Tea originates from Yunnan’s unique tea cultivar “Zijuan”, first discovered in 1985 by the Tea Research Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Manzhen Tea Garden, Menghai County.
This tea plant was named for its purple buds, leaves, and stems, with leaves rich in anthocyanins that exhibit a distinctive purple-red hue. Researchers cultivated it through individual plant selection, officially naming it “Zijuan” in 1986. The name draws inspiration from both “Zijuan” (the maid of Lin Daiyu in Dream of the Red Chamber) and the purple characteristics of the tea buds.
Experiments by Yunnan Institute of Materia Medica confirmed Zijuan Tea’s remarkable blood pressure-lowering effects, reducing hypertension by 35.53% – outperforming regular green tea.
