Description

Thousand-year inheritance-Royal Kiln

The porcelain-making tradition of Jingdezhen can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD), when primitive porcelain production began.

During the Jingde period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1004-1007), Emperor Zhenzong bestowed his reign title “Jingde” upon the region in recognition of its exceptional ceramics, thereby establishing the name “Jingdezhen Porcelain.”

The Yuan Dynasty witnessed revolutionary advancements in Jingdezhen ceramics, marked by the innovation of blue-and-white porcelain (qinghua ci) and the creation of high-temperature colored glazes such as underglaze red (youlihong). These breakthroughs laid the foundation for Jingdezhen’s colored porcelain craftsmanship.

Reaching its zenith during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jingdezhen porcelain became the official imperial kiln for the royal court. This legacy continues today, earning the city its reputation as the “Millennium Porcelain Capital.”

More than utilitarian objects, Jingdezhen ceramics represent the material embodiment of Chinese civilization. As diplomatic gifts and global trade commodities, they have profoundly influenced ceramic production worldwide.

Jingdezhen Porcelain – Exquisite Intangible Cultural Heritage

The core materials of Jingdezhen porcelain are kaolin (gaolingtu) and porcelain stone (cishi). After washing and aging, these materials are proportionally blended into clay body to ensure stability under high-temperature firing.

The meticulous handcrafting process involves multiple stages: hand-throwing on a potter’s wheel, trimming and refining the body, glaze application (including overglaze, in-glaze, and underglaze techniques), and firing.

The firing process, susceptible to damage from temperature fluctuations, contributes to both the extraordinary beauty and relative scarcity of Jingdezhen porcelain.

Jingdezhen ceramics embody dignified elegance, adorned with auspicious motifs such as dragon patterns (longwen, symbolizing imperial authority) and interlocking lotus vines (chanzhilian, representing longevity and harmony).

This Jingdezhen lidded bowl is a celebration of China’s ceramic heritage, featuring the iconic Fallen Flowers Flowing Water motif meticulously painted by master artisans. Each piece embodies the harmony of nature and philosophy, blending Tang Dynasty artistry with Song Dynasty minimalism.

100% Handcrafted in Jingdezhen – Crafted with 1,000-year-old porcelain techniques.

Cobalt Blue & White Mastery – Vibrant hues inspired by Ming Dynasty classics.

The Fallen Flowers Flowing Water (落花流水) design is a poetic metaphor for life’s transient beauty. Originating in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, this motif evolved through Tang’s vibrancy to Song’s serenity, symbolizing resilience, renewal, and the quiet acceptance of change. A timeless emblem of Zen philosophy.

Every petal and ripple is painted freehand, ensuring uniqueness and fluidity akin to ink wash paintings.
