The core materials of Jingdezhen porcelain are kaolin (gaolingtu) and porcelain stone (cishi). After washing and aging, these materials are proportionally blended into clay body to ensure stability under high-temperature firing.
The meticulous handcrafting process involves multiple stages: hand-throwing on a potter’s wheel, trimming and refining the body, glaze application (including overglaze, in-glaze, and underglaze techniques), and firing.
The firing process, susceptible to damage from temperature fluctuations, contributes to both the extraordinary beauty and relative scarcity of Jingdezhen porcelain.
